ON MOVIES ~ Waterworld...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week's movie topic is all about Water..

This weeks theme is all about movies filmed in and around the sea, lakes, rivers and streams

Waterworld - Has to be included being the biggest most expensive water movie that flopped spectacularly. This movie is just so bad you have to watch it.

Deep Blue Sea - Samuel L Jackson is all really need to know about this movie. It is silly, improbable and a plot line so full of holes it resembles swiss cheese. But strangely I liked this film! I avoided the obvious shark movie Jaws, I figured a lot of other people will pick that.

Pirates of the Carribean - If this doesnt make just about everyones list I will be REALLY surprised.

Finding Nemo - What isnt there to love about this movie. Not to mention you cant help but quote the damn thing for hours after!

Sphere - Creepy alien artifact at the bottom of the sea. Also Samuel L Jackson is in this (it is a coincidence that I have selected to Samuel L Jackson films, I promise! though he is a fantastic actor).

Piranha - A horror movie about flesh eating fish. I never really watched this movie. I saw one scene of a woman on a lie-low (is that how it is spelt?) thing getting eaten and I decided then and there this was not the movie for me.

ON MOVIES ~ Say What?...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week's movie topic is all about Subtitles..

Carleen @ Life, Liberty & Good Coffee recently suggested the topic of subtitles. So this weeks theme is what foreign films have you enjoyed? I personally do not have a problem with subtitles as I used to watch a lot of original Japanese Animation (dont get to see so much any more, not enough time). It is a real skill though to read quickly then watch the scene unfold. These days I dont watch a lot of subtitled movies, in fact I think the last one (new) I saw was Crouching Tiger.

Armour of God - Hong Kong/Chinese movie about an Indiana Jones style character. Action, Comedy and Awesome stunts. This is a Jacki Chan movie and personally I prefer his non English stuff. The action sequences are really why you watch his non English films. No insurance companies saying "dont do it" here. In fact while filming Armour of God Jacki almost died and had to have a hole drilled into his head (which is a permanent hole filled with a plastic plug). The scene is played at the end of the movie.

Das Boot - German movie about a U-Boat in WWII. This movie is about the life of a submariner. Even though it is told from the German perspective there is no right or wrong, its just survival and do your job. This was also one of Wolfgang Petersons earliest work before he made it big in Hollywood.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Chinese movie set in the ancient China. A love story and an action story. It has some major Asian stars in it like Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat. The imagery is just amazing. Visually it is a beautiful film (and the actors arent to shabby either).

ON MOVIES ~ I'd Rather Be Pretending...

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Go to your blog and create your own post on the topic, linking back to us in your post, then come back and leave a link to your post here in our Comments section. If you don’t have a blog, just share your response in the Comments section.

This week's movie topic is all about The Movies You'd Most Like To Hang Out In...

Movies transport us to all different times and places and let us live in the minds of the young, the old, as men, as women, famous and imaginary. Sometimes when the lights come up it is hard to leave the world the film just inserted us into. If you could go and hang out in any movie, which would it be? Why?

I cant say I have ever really given this much thought so my list is a little short this week.

The Fifth Element - Traveling through space, hover cars, groovy colourful outfits, take away that comes to your window, oh and aliens. What is there not to like about this world?

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Gorgeous scenery, being able kick ass with kung fu, beautiful architecture, pretty clothes, super kung fu kicking ass (jumping from tree tops etc), magic, and getting to kick ass with sharp shiny pointy things.

Harry Potter and the Philosphers Stone - Living in a world where you can perform magic, yes please, where do I sign up?

On Movies - Trauma

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week's movie topic is all about Trauma....

This week's topic is brought to you by the ever uplifting Sandy @ You've GOTTA Read This! She suggested we share which movies have shaken us to the core so much that we've never been the same because of them. Most of my traumatic movie experiences happened when I was child and pretty much shaped my views on horror films since. All horror films in my opinion should be avoided!

The Never Ending Story– Gave me the full range of emotions. Elation, sadness, and terror. The scene where the horse Artax gets sucked into the mud had me bawling my eyes out and screaming at the tv to save the stupid horse. The wolf had me cowering in fear and the luckdragon had me laughing and wishing I had one. To this day I still don’t like the wolf even though it looks stupid now!

Jurassic Park– I know a strange choice but this came out in my second year of high school and a big gang of us girls went to watch it. We were all scared spitless and spent the whole film jumping out of our skins. At the time though it looked terrifyingly real (plus we were sitting at the front of the cinema so that T-Rex roar was LOUD!). This was a good trauma though because I love this film.

Nightmare on Elm Street – My good childhood friend Phillip introduced me to this film sitting me down telling me how good it was. Well needless to say I spent the whole film behind the couch (literally not joking here). He then proceeded to do this with most 80’s horror films, such as Jaws and anything with stupid vampires, all with the same effect. I have never been a fan of horror films and to this day I dont like them, and that is not likely to change.

The Poltergeist (1982)- Helloooo kiddie gets eaten by the tv. Do I really have to elaborate? That was the only scene I saw as I walked in to the living room and it was on tv but that was enough for me.

Troll (1986) - an 80's horror movie that had me lining my bed with toys to protect me and not walking down the hallway in the dark. I would probably laugh myself stupid watching it now but at the time it was truly terrifying.

On Movies - I love the 80's

Feature Presentation...

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week's movie topic is all about The '80's...

Time to get nostalgic. Share some of your favorite movies from the '80's. Well I was a child growing up in the 80's so most of my favorites are children movies. However once I got started thinking about the movies from the 80's it was hard to stop! I don't remember watching a lot of movies, I was more interested in climbing trees and watching Saturday cartoons. So the ones listed here are the ones I clearly remember watching (usually over and over).

ON MOVIES ~ Your Collection

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

This week's movie topic is all about Your Collection...

I am participating for the first time this week. This meme is hosted by The Bumbles.

"Last week, we asked you about how you watch movies. Quite a few of you shared how you watch from your own collection. So now we would like a glimpse into your collection of movies."
  • MOST VIEWED: Indianna Jones and the Last Crusade - this has been a firm favorite since it came out. It doesn't get watched AS much anymore (maybe once a year), but is still a fave.
  • NEVER VIEWED: - if we bought a DVD then we watch it. We haven't really been given dvd's either.
  • AFRAID TO ADMIT YOU OWN: - Thankfully we do not have any of these. We only buy movies we like.Though some might think my animated movie collection is embarrassing. I however remain proud.
  • GUILTY PLEASURE: Bring it On - I cant help it. Cheerleaders, good music, good choreographed routines, snappy one liners. Sad I know.
  • MOST SHARED: Bourne Supremacy - Usually gets trotted out because the main visitors at our place that want to watch dvd's are guys, and they like things that go bang and people getting turned into human pretzels. Though getting two big Greek boys to watch Mama Mia was a definite achievement.
  • WHY DID WE BUY THIS?: Paul Blart Mall Cop - ok thankfully we did not buy this but we borrowed it and we only watched the first 15 minutes before we gave up. It was just a bad, uninteresting film.
  • MOST TREASURED: Any Animated Films - I love animated films. All of my owned animated films are faves and I dig them out frequently. Finding Nemo, Madagascar, and Ice Age have to be the all time top 3 currently.
  • WILDCARD: James Bond Series - we have nearly all the films and they get trotted out periodically. ALL dvd collections should have a James Bond film in there. I think it is mandatory, like having a Monty Python film.
