    That's pretty much how it looks from a distance in the fog - but it sounds to me like this book is describing something more sinister.

    A friend of mine got married in SF on a balcony and Alcatraz was looming ominously in the background during their ceremony. They are happily married - but I'm not sure the symbol of marriage as a prison was what they were going for!
