Teaser Tuesday : 31 March 09

Teaser Tuesdays hosted by Should Be Reading asks you to:
  • Grab your current read
  • Let the book fall open to a random page
  • Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
  • Do NOT post anything that could spoil the plot of the book!
" In a roadside shack, we managed to buy some noodles - thin, white, wiry specimens that suggested intestinal worms drowning in an anemic soup."

  5. Thanks everyone - I really enjoyed this book and to be fair to Polly the noodle comment comes at the end of a long and eventful (bad eventful) part of her journey. I will say no more.I have finished it and will post my review eventually. Slack be my name at the moment :)

Irish - Imagine how I felt I was eating spaghetti on toast when I read that comment. After I finished chocking on my lunch from laughter and assuring my work colleges I was not dying, I realised lunch suddenly was not looking so good. I did not need the mental image while only half way through lunch.

  10. I just finished reading this. I really enjoyed it - it was very witty. I loved the scene where she ran into Simon Winchester, the master of all journalistic travel writing and her personal hero.

  11. Maggots and anything similar-shaped makes me shudder! My cousin Thai had a deep fear of rice because he thought they looked like maggots, but thankfully I never had that issue.

Interesting title! As my uncle always says, you can eat anything with chopsticks...even jello.

  12. Eeeeew - kind of left a horrible mental image! Wonder if I'll ever be able to look at those noodles the same again - I use them in some dishes. . .
